Yézidis, soleil invaincu

The exhibition “Yazidis, Unvanquished Sun: Ten Years After the Genocide” was conceived by photojournalist Johanna de Tessières and journalist Christophe Lamfalussy.
Through some fifty photographs accompanied by texts, it offers insight into the history, culture, and religion of the Yazidi people, while bringing into focus the human, political, and economic consequences of the genocide perpetrated from 2014 onwards.

The exhibition design supports this narrative with restraint and clarity, allowing the images and testimonies to take center stage. Conceived from the outset as a travelling exhibition, it is based on a set of simple, robust, and highly adaptable elements: durable display structures, hanging systems suited to a range of architectural contexts, mobile text panels, and a flexible video projection area.

Initially presented at La Cité Miroir in Liège, within the distinctive architecture of a former swimming pool—where the exhibition found its most complete expression—the scenography was subsequently adapted for presentation at Espace Geopolis in Brussels, before continuing its journey through schools across the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Designed to operate at multiple scales, it can be easily transported, installed, and reconfigured, while maintaining the clarity and impact of its narrative.

Grounded in a deliberately simple, accessible, and sustainable spatial approach, the scenography enables the exhibition to reach diverse audiences and to continue circulating, thereby extending its work of remembrance and awareness into new contexts.
