For the launch of the second season of Mons 2015, Atelier Blink designed and realized a public installation composed of 300 balloons, conceived as a visual and tactile intervention in the historic urban space of Mons Grand-Place.
The installation plays with lightness, color, and scale to temporarily transform the square, spark wonder, and invite visitors to see the place with fresh eyes. The balloons, in dialogue with the surrounding monumental architecture, become floating points of attention, creating a visual pathway through the heart of the city.
Designed as a collective and festive experience, the project explores the relationship between public space, events, and the imagination of passersby. Its deployment broadens perceptions of the site, establishes a playful and poetic atmosphere, and creates a visual interlude in everyday urban life.
In the spirit of sustainability and continuity, the balloons were later reused for various events organized as part of Mons 2015, extending their visual and participatory impact beyond the Grand-Place.
