Understanding a city requires a clear and shared vision. The municipalities of Anderlecht, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Etterbeek and Saint-Gilles have joined forces on a joint urban and commercial signage project.
This urban and commercial signage charter defines a coherent information system covering places, sites, services, commercial districts, and other points of interest. It aims to structure urban signage in a clear, consistent, and accessible way.
Its purpose is to develop a global system that facilitates multimodal mobility. Rather than multiplying new signage posts, the approach seeks to make the most of existing elements within the urban landscape.
The outcome is a set of complementary tools: directional badges mounted on existing poles, map portholes integrated into building façades, murals on blank walls, ground markers, and a three-dimensional map.
Following a preliminary audit conducted with key stakeholders — municipalities, “Atriums”, the Brussels Region, STIB, Visit Brussels, and planning consultant Benoît Moritz — the project resulted in full graphic and technical specifications, as well as detailed implementation plans.
